During my National Youth service I got in a taxi one day, heading
to the NYSC secretariat. I was dressed in the government-issued khaki trousers
and a t-shirt, so it was difficult for anyone to not notice that I was a
serving corps member.
There was a well-dressed lady sitting beside me, who after a
while identified herself also as a serving corps member. I don’t know how young
I looked, but for some vague reason she paid my fare. My monthly allowance from
my PPA was probably more than her entire allowance for the service year from
her PPA, but I kept my mouth shut and relished the gift.
I don’t know when last good was done to you from the heart,
but I haven’t forgotten this one. Seriously though, it was just about a hundred
naira but you’re reading about it today. The lady and I wouldn’t likely
recognize each other if we met again, but I do remember that good was done to
me. The reason is inconsequential, God was the ultimate source.
Every good gift comes exclusively from God. That’s what the bible says.
Now this may be really difficult to comprehend, especially with so many gifts
and presents being sent and received per second, but if the gift is truly good,
it’s from God.
God Himself may not have signed the card, but your reception
of that gift is possible because of Him.
All of goodness
is possible because God started it.
So the next time you are the subject of actual goodwill,
look beyond the conduit carrying out the divine instruction, and see the
ultimate Giver - the Source of all things good.
