Have you read about the asteroid belt?
It’s a ring of space rocks ranging from the size of a fist
to the size of a city, that are said to be orbiting in our solar system, close
to earth.
A few years ago one rock about the size of a school bus
broke into our atmosphere, and thankfully landed in an uninhabited area. When I
watched video clips of the bright rock tearing across the sky, I was both awed
and afraid. I mean, what if I was seeing it with my naked eyes, falling towards
me? Where would I run to? What would I do?
Humanity by itself would be completely defenseless against a
giant asteroid hurtling directly towards earth. Well, maybe one is coming now.
No one knows for sure.
The awe I felt at the sight of the asteroid was not because
it was brighter than the sun. It felt awesome because I was safe, as well as
the rest of humanity.
I, as a Christian, may not share the same opinion with
science as to the primary reason why no large asteroid has hit us yet and
caused significant damage, but I’m sure we share the gratitude.
And that’s a very important thing to note, because Jesus
assured us that one day this earth will be destroyed and replaced with a new
one. Whether we want it or not, earth’s end is inevitable.
Optimists would want to root for Earth Party, and celebrate Earth
day, which are pretty cool things to do, but this same Jesus has assured us
that though the flowers fade and grasses wither [and earth be destroyed]
anybody who does the will of God will last forever.
God is good, and so is His will. You cannot outlast this
earth if you live your life according to its standards. There’s a higher life,
a higher plane of existence where God wants us to be, a place so good,
asteroids can’t reach.
Everyone will one day come to recognize God as the Righteous
Judge. The difference will be whether you recognize this before or after the
fact.
Goodness isn’t an inherent attribute of man. It’s the nature
of God.
I challenge you to step up to God’s nature, and be go[o]d!
