In this ever-changing world we live in, it’s difficult to
stay the same. It’s almost impossible to stick with the same ideologies and
lifestyles of the past, because better ones appear to crop up each day. But
some principles haven’t changed; they’ve been built upon, but the foundations
remain the same.
‘Smart” is the thing to be now, whether watch, phone or
person. “Work smart,” it’s said, “not hard”. “Don’t give good excuses, get things done”. While this is great
motivation, it should be taken with care because in the end it’s not just what
you do that matters, but how you do
it.
Many times we sacrifice our good principles on the altar of ‘necessity’,
and slay our consciences for the ‘greater good’. We do bad things to look good.
But to whom does it matter how you look?
There’s a phrase, “Do
it if you can live with it”. This encourages people to do stuff if they can
endure the associated guilt. But does that make it right? People who live with
cancer or diabetes can confirm that being able to live with something doesn’t
necessarily make it a good thing, or even an okay thing.
More so, God has standards, and they never change. Our
understanding of who He is, and our relationship with Him improve, but He stays
the same. He is perfect!
So each time we cut corners and break His principles,
expecting a pat on the back when we come back to Him with pockets full of
wages, He remains unflustered; He cannot be bought over.
God hates evil, but He loves the righteous, people who keep
doing good.
He never takes His eyes off the righteous; He honors them lavishly,
promotes them endlessly.1
If doing good was easy, everyone would be doing it. In that
situation where you find yourself, doing the right thing may look
counterintuitive, stupid, or even unprofessional; but doing good is always the right thing, and God loves
it.
The LORD directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail
of their lives.2 [and He busies Himself with his every step]3.
God knows how to help people, especially those
who make Him happy. And He loves being happy!
People who do what is
right may have many problems, but the Lord will solve them all4.
It’s an amazing sight: God in action on behalf of those He’s
delighted in!
People will definitely try to hurt you for being good, but
God is over and above all. He will help you.
When the righteous see God in action they'll
laugh, they'll sing, they'll laugh and sing for joy5.
