Have you noticed something peculiar about news headlines? The
most popular ones are bad news.
Actually, they’re good news for the news stations and corporations
because they draw readers and ratings, but they’re bad news to the victims and
suffering people directly involved.
What is it about us that causes our eyes to turn in the
direction of misfortune; that makes our ears itch for news about disaster or conflict
or murder or crisis?
We yawn at news of things happening as planned and flip past
columns on everyday events, yet pause at violence and obituaries, and this is
not because we grieve with those involved. It’s not that ‘normal’ isn’t news,
otherwise now that conflicts have become the norm they wouldn’t be on our front-pages.
As seldom as it may seem to find good news as headlines,
there’s a guaranteed regular source: God.
God is always good; any news about Him is good news, and is
headline material. You can never get bored listening to the good God has done.
Even better is experiencing it.
In the midst of the evil going on around, you can experience
His awesome goodness by staying in His presence, and relishing it.
Over time you will come to see that what the human heart
yearns for isn’t really bad news, we actually desire consolation more than
information, and restoration more than an explanation.
When God is at the top of the page, it can never be a bad
day no matter what else is in the papers.
God news is good news, and it’s never stale.
